She was a member of Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was created following the demise of WPS. Rapinoe was soon one of the leading players for her team, eventually becoming the captain. Her FIFA Women's World Cup debut was in 2011 She played a key role in guiding the U.S. Women's World Cup team to consecutive wins in the year 2015. In 2018, she was appointed cocaptain. Rapinoe's two goals were in a four-three United States victory against Australia during the Olympics of 2020 held in Tokyo. Japan, however it was postponed until 2021 until the COVID-19 pandemic had passed.
